A study conducted for 12 years by Swedish researchers of 3.4 million people aged 40 to 80 years, has shown that having a dog reduces by 33% the risk of dying prematurely. Scientists have also compiled a list of dog breeds that are most beneficial to health.
At the high end, found the researchers, the Retrievers, and Setters: they would reduce by 40% the risk of premature death among their owners. This is probably due to the fact that these big, energetic hunting dogs have a great need to spend themselves.
