Dog Allergies | How to Prevent for Dog Allergies

Like a human, some dogs get allergies too. Allergies can be caused by many things around them. If you have a dog that has allergies, you will want to find out what the allergies are and treat it as soon as possible.

Dog Allergies

Experts say that almost 20% of the dogs in the United States suffer from several types of allergy. The two most common types of allergies are allergies from fleas and food allergies.

Allergies from fleas

Many people know that dogs can be infected with fleas. However, what most people don’t know is that dogs can get allergies from them too.

The flea itself is not the one causing the allergic reactions in dogs, but instead, it’s the flea’s saliva. For this reason, it is important to get your dog examined for skin allergy to determine if your dog is sensitive to flea’s saliva.

If your dog is found to have allergies, the veterinarian might give medication to lessen the allergic reactions. To avoid allergies from the flea all together, there are flea control products you can buy and use. The most popular type of flea control products are collars and pills.

Allergies from foods

There is some food that can cause your dog to have allergies. Some of these foods include wheat, soy products, pork, beef, fish, eggs, milk, and chemical preservatives that are in their food.

Some of the signs of allergic reactions to food are shaking of the head, frequent scratching of the ear, sneezing, and irritated skin. If the food you give them is new, take precaution as it might cause an allergic reaction.

As you can see, allergies do not only affect humans, but also dogs. Therefore, it is extremely important to know about these dog allergies so you can be prepared in case your dog does have an allergic reaction.

Everyone wants a house that is clean and having a puppy can be a problem. To prevent any problems from occurring, you will need to housebreak your puppy. Most breeds of dogs are easy to housebreak.

The ideal age to housebreaking your puppy should be around the age of 8 to 12 weeks old. This the time that their brain starts to develop and respond well to training. There are some breeds that will be hard to train, but under no circumstances must you give up.

The easiest way to housebreaking your puppy is by using a crate. A crate is basically a cage with bars and a locking door. The size of the crate should be large enough for your dog to move around. Some people refer to the crate as the dog’s bedroom too. It is recommended to not leave your puppy in the crate for more than two hours at a time.

Crate training is great for housebreaking your puppy since they will not eliminate their waste in their sleeping areas. Puppies have a small bladder and they will need to eliminate themselves more often. Usually right after napping and eating is the time to take them outside.

When housebreaking your puppy, always be patient and don’t yell at them. Yelling will cause them to be afraid and be more resistance to you. Also, never punish your puppy if you notice he has eliminated himself somewhere in the house. Punishing your puppy when he doesn’t know what he did wrong will just lead to further problems. Instead, follow him around and if he starts to eliminate himself, take him outside immediately.

Another tip is to make it a routine to take him outside at the same time every day. Also, if you have more than one door in the house, only leave through one door only. This way, he will know which door to scratch when it’s time to do his business. Following this routine daily will help establish a time for your puppy to know when you’re available to take him outside.

Housebreaking your puppy is very easy. All you need is patience and determination in training them. Once you have trained your puppy to go where he needs to, you will not have to worry about them damaging the house.
